12 April 2008

Long time. Long long time. It's been forever since I last put anything up here. It's good, though. I've actually been *gasp* busy lately! I got a job with the University of Michigan in the Photo Services Department. I'm the Photoshop guy in the office. Good. Great, actually. It's a career move for me, it's a great opportunity, and it's my first "real" job. Wow! I've been working there for about three weeks now and I've only got good things to report.

Starting off with a night of revelry and Risk. Beer was flowing, people were yelling, attitudes were getting in the way. It was a great time.

I'm kind of a big deal.

Gordon always gets a huge attidude when we play Risk. You can see it in his rolling style.

Andrew contemplating his next move.

Another Fink boy. This was a quickie ten-minute portrait in the living room. Thanks to Jack for standing out in the rain holding my flash up to the window.

Did I mention that the University sent me to Florida for training? No complaints. It was only my second week on the job, too. I stayed in Orlando, all expenses paid.

The view out the hotel room window.

Unfortunately, Orlando is very touristy. This was one of many crappy tourist trap gift shops.

More bad news about Orlando: there's not ONE good coffee shop, at least not on International Drive. I was stuck with Folgers from the hotel, a crazy expensive local shop ($3.00 for a standard cup of drip?), or Starbucks. I chose Starbucks. It was awful.

Now for some good news: Photoshop World 2008 was great! I got to see world-class photographers give presentations and teach classes. Joe McNally, John Paul Caponigro, real good guys. Shooters that I've admired for years. It was very useful stuff, too, all the sorts of things to improve my daily workflow. This is the convention center where it was held.

One of the stairways leading up to the main floor of the convention center. Probably my favorite shot from the whole week.

I did so much walking. All over the place. Miles each day.

Finally sitting, waiting for the bus to pick me up. Whew!

The bus arrives! I mentioned that this place is touristy, right?

Thanks! I'll try to keep updating a bit more often.
